For many in the BDSM/Kink community, especially anyone who are in TPE and dynamic relationships, the use of honorifics as titles of respect or endearment can be really important. However, because Kink is customisable there are many differing views on honorifics, when they can and can't be used or how you obtain a title.
Some individual subscribe to the view that titles and honorifics are earnt eg: you can't call yourself a Master for example until x, y and z. Others, don't hold any weight to honorifics or titles and have no issue with them being used indiscriminately. For the most part however, it is a good idea if you are new to the lifestyle or UNSURE of the other persons view on titles and honorifics to subscribe to the view that they MUST be consented to.
Consent is everything in the lifestyle, which is why it makes sense that titles and honorificis should also be negotiated and consented to.
