The last several months I have been reflecting on my very religious up brining. Trying to resolve within myself how and why I lost faith, renounced all things organized religion, and found myself in a lifestyle that, by all religious accounts, will send me straight to hell.
Now, I’m going to need to trigger warning anyone who still holds their religious faith, you may not want to read this particular blog post.
Growing up, I loved the sense of family and community I found in my church, we would get together more often then my relatedfamily, members of my church helped my family when we didn’t have food to eat, and even paid a significate amount of money so my brothers and I could go to a church camp that we all had our hearts set on. Children’s church was filled with the love of Christ and the promise of eternal life in streets of gold, stories of the good Samaritan, the golden rule, and miracles.
As I grew older though, withing the teachings of my mother to think for myself, I found myself questioning many things, as I read through the bible for the 3rd time, I was finding too many teachings that didn’t feel right, the subservience of women to be the primary at the time. I really only knew my mom well enough to make any comparisons, but that women is a BOSS, taking care of the house, while working to provide for me, my brothers, and her PTSD addiction leaden boyfriend. My mom was and is a superhero and should be subservient to NO ONE. Then came the overwhelming signs of hypocrisy, we were supposed to love everyone, but anyone who didn’t believe was a horrible person and going to hell, and the only way they wouldn’t be a horrible person anymore was to become like us, and anyone not like us didn’t deserve our attention, charity, or compassion. Now, I know that all religious people are like this, but far too many of them are, and I have found that the more elitist you are the higher esteem you get in the church. To my experience, the ratio of hypocrites to genuine is grossly over balanced.
Fast forward to 8 years ago, when I find the kink community here in Vegas. I see a people who not only value the same ideals of respect and love and acceptance as what the church is supposed to value, but a people who LIVE those values as well. It doesn’t matter if you are Gay, Straight or anything in-between, if you are a man, women or again, anything in-between; it doesn’t matter what color your skin is, or what gets you off, you are welcome. In this lifestyle you are judged off your character and your actions, your integrity and your honor. In this lifestyle we have community and family. In this lifestyle I found what I was always looking for in the church. Now, this is not to say that we do not have our hypocrites, I have met more then a few, but remember that ratio I spoke of above? The genuine to hypocrites is the way its over balanced here.
So to all you Kinky motherfuckers, those of you who are honorable, integritous, respecting, and service oriented. Here are OUR 10 commandments.
